“I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.”

With respect, gratitude, and hope, this message is for every newcomer, trusted servant, and long‑timer in the Coastal Bend and surrounding communities. Alcoholics Anonymous thrives because we care enough to show up for one another, building our fellowship on compassion, humility, and a shared willingness to help the alcoholic who still suffers.

❖ Unity and Service

One of the most meaningful ways we do this is through our service structures, especially Intergroup. Misunderstandings about service can quietly weaken our unity, but our Traditions remind us: our common welfare must come first, and personal recovery depends upon A.A. unity.

✦ Intergroup’s Role

Here in Corpus Christi and throughout the Coastal Bend, that responsibility is carried by the Coastal Bend Intergroup Association. Most of us know our home group well, but fewer see the daily work behind the scenes—phones answered, meeting information kept accurate, literature made available, Twelfth Step calls coordinated, and newcomers welcomed. This work is not separate from recovery; it is how recovery is made possible.

Intergroup exists because some needs are too large or urgent for any single group. It is not an outside entity or governing body, but A.A. members serving A.A. members, cooperating so no alcoholic faces desperation alone.

When a Suffering Alcoholic Reaches Out the caller hopes someone will answer. Intergroup helps ensure the hand of A.A. is a living, reachable reality.

✧ Through Intergroup:

✦ Meetings stay connected and accessible

✦ Accurate information reaches those who need it

✦ Literature and resources are available when time matters most

✦ Groups support one another

✦ The message of recovery reaches beyond our meeting walls

For Everyone

✦ For newcomers: Intergroup works for you from the moment you ask for help.

✦ For long-timers: Intergroup exists because earlier members accepted responsibility beyond their own group, trusting unity and service to protect what we all depend on.

✦ For those who question its value: Intergroup is A.A. practicing its Traditions—cooperation without control, service without authority, unity without uniformity.

Our fellowship endures because alcoholics before us cared enough to build and support the structures that allow A.A. to function as a whole. We are the beneficiaries of that care—and now we are its stewards.

When we support Intergroup, we affirm a promise: when the next alcoholic reaches out, someone will answer. And for that—we are responsible.
